One of the reasons why I was writing this letter besides checking with you to see how you and your family were doing, is that I wanted to share with you about a winter missions trip that I will be going to serve the Lord on.
This is my first ever missions trip serving the Lord and I am veryy excited that I heard the calling from God to go serve him with a group of 9 faithful sons and daughters from the New Philly family. From December 23 to January 3, I will be going to Manila, Philippines. Some of the work that we will be focusing on are: outreach to the slums of metro Manila, preaching the Gospel, praying for the sick, feeding the hungry and lastly, ministering at revival services for NPWM churches in the greater Manila area.
At this point of the letter, you might be asking yourself, why Manila? And if you were, I wanted to share some important information about this city. Manila is the second largest city in the Philippines with an overall population of around 2 million people. The history of Manila involves much turmoil, but its known because it was the site of one of the bloodiest battles that took place in the pacific theater during WWII. Known as the “Manila massacre”, after falling to the empire of Japan, and later recaptured by joint American and Filipino troops, some 100,000 civilians were killed in Manila. It was the second most devastated city in the world after Warsaw during the WWII. The country is still undergoing reconstruction and healing as consequences from the war. It is our prayer and hope that the gospel will heal the people and land.
After reading this, I really hope you can share my passion and desire to go to this mission. You can help me and even join me, maybe not physically but in prayers and also financially. Last but not least, the total trip cost is 1,100,000 krw and after my personal contribution, I will be raising 770,000 KRW to cover trip expenses.
