John-Michael's Cambodia Support Letter

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God” Luke 18:16

December 29, 2012

This winter my wife Sky and I will be going with a team of 12 church leaders for a week-long mission trip to Cambodia.  Sky will be serving as the team leader and I will be serving as the preacher for our trip.  We will be traveling throughout Cambodia to hold revival services and to do children’s ministry at a number of different orphanages.

Cambodia has an extremely tragic past that most people outside the country have never learned about.  In the 1970’s there was a revolution in the nation led by a man named Pol Pot.  He had wild dreams of creating an agrarian society and he brainwashed child soldiers to accomplish his task.  During the 1970’s millions of people in the small nation were executed in the “killing fields” or died of starvation because of Pol Pot’s evil regime.  Most people in Cambodia who lived through the years of Pol Pot’s regime suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder and are haunted by nightmares of their past.

Sky and I were led to commit to the Cambodia trip because of the past of this nation and because of the many orphanages throughout the country.  It is a nation that seems to finally be recovering from its troubled past and there both economic growth and spiritual growth are happening across the country.  We know that when North Korea opens, the nation will be in a similar state to how Cambodia was after Pol Pot, so we feel this trip to Cambodia is also a vision trip for us for our future ministry in North Korea.

Last year Sky and I were able to go on a mission trip to Nepal and the Holy Spirit moved dramatically as we ministered there.  We are contending for even greater glory as we minister in Cambodia and we are also praying to see deep inner healing among both the children and also the elderly still scarred from the killing fields.  We are praying that God will equip us greatly for future ministry through this trip.

There are two ways you can partner with us as we go to Cambodia, and the first is supporting us in prayer.  We are in need of about ten supporters who will pray for us each day while we are away.  Please e-mail us at comequickly@gmail.com if you would like to partner with us in prayer in that way.  We also need to raise at least $1,000 to cover the trip expenses.  If you would like to help with that, please visit the website http://support.newphilly.cc or you can send a check to the mailing address below.
