From Jan. 25 to Feb. 1, I will be going to Nepal with my church, New Philadelphia (newphiladelphiachurch.com). Nine other NPC leaders and I will display the love of Jesus Christ to the beautiful people of this nation. Along with encouraging the native pastors and missionaries already serving in Nepal, the main focus of our ministry will be the youth.
In the last few years, God has been burning my heart for two things: the nations and the young generation. God has (unexpectedly) woven missions and revival for the youth into my everyday life here in Seoul, at New Philly Church, and by serving on staff with Emmaus Campus Ministry. It is really no coincidence that both come together in this upcoming trip to Nepal.
Though this nation has ancient roots in Hinduism, Nepal is also the birthplace of Buddhism, or at least the Buddha (Siddhartha Guatama was born in Nepal). The shared roots of Buddhism and Hinduism in this nation make the two religions inseparable, though 80% of Nepalese officially practice Hinduism. The last decade for Nepal politically has been riddled with upheavals, rivalries, and communist factions striving for power. It has been an unsteady time for the people of Nepal.
Nevertheless, no amount of historical rootedness in a religion or political strife can stand in the way of God’s immense love for the people of this nation. He has chosen Nepal to know Him intimately. He has chosen to pour out His Spirit on the youth of this nation, and my team and I have the honor of being a part this!
